City Serve 2016

Photos by David Croxford

6:45 Nick, Rob and Justin cranking up the BBQ ready for some hungry volunteers, David from Fat Crema setting up his café on wheels for all those that need to be well caffeinated before they face a day’s work J

7:00 Volunteers start arriving and enjoying Bacon and Egg goodness wrapped in a roll whilst sipping on arguably Newcastle’s best mobile cafés hot drink selection (Please bring cash for Coffee, Tea, Hot Chocolate).
7:30ish By now all of our wonderful volunteers should be ready and jumping out of their skin to get planting, so Petra from Council will take us all through a brief safety and how-to-plant briefing at Arcadia Park.
7:45 Split into two groups, half of the group to venture down to meet John, Jenny and Ian at Morgan Street Park and the other half to stay at Arcadia Park with Petra, Stuart, Lewin, Ann and Ann – hopefully I’ve remembered everyone J
8:00ish The time you’ve all been waiting for, let’s get stuck in, roll up the sleeves and have some fun doing so.
Sometime between 11-12:30 Finish and enjoy a celebratory Sausage Sizzle with us back at the Top of Wolfe Street.
Where are we meeting

Coffee by Fat Crema – local Newcastle based Barrister. David will be on-site between 7-7:30am only.

Arcadia Park Project:
Up to 1000 plants to be planted within the park, mulch has already been distributed.

Morgan Street Park:
300-400 plants to be planted along the Morgan Street Frontage plus mulch to be distributed.

Afterwards we will also have a celebratory Sausage Sizzle back at the Top of Wolfe Street. I haven’t set a time for this because it simply comes down to what time we finish.
I’ll also bring some bottles of water, and juice boxes in case we have a few kids come along and volunteer with their parents.
What to bring/wear the following:

  1. Gloves, if possible
  2. Enclosed shoes
  3. Hat and Shirt
  4. Sunscreen
  5. Bottle of water
